Diploma in Music Performance

The Diploma in Music Performance provides foundational knowledge and skills for aspiring musicians. Modules cover performance, theory, music history, and musicianship, fostering critical reflection. Additionally, students gain business and entrepreneurial skills for success in the music industry.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of Diploma in Music Performance, students will be able to:

  • Demonstrate proficiency on their instrument equivalent to ABRSM Grade 8 or higher
  • Possess music theory proficiency equivalent to ABRSM Grade 8 or higher for Classical students, or Rock School Grade 8 or higher for Pop students
  • Demonstrate intermediate musicianship and ensemble skills
  • Effectively self-promote as an independent artist

Course Duration

Full-time (12 months)
Part-time (18 months)

Intake commences in April and October annually.

Class Size

The instructor to student ratio is 1 instructor to 12 students.

Age Requirement

At least 16 years old

Academic Requirement

Minimum of 3 GCE O-level credits with grade C6 and above, or its international equivalent.

Candidates with a NITEC or Higher NITEC Certificate will have to complete and pass one of SOMA’s Certificate Courses in order to be eligible for admission to the Diploma courses.

Language Requirement

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 4.5,
or GCE ‘N’/’O’ Level English grade C6 and above.

Other English Language Proficiency Tests (TOEFL/Duolingo) can also be considered.

Music Qualification Requirement

Minimum of Grade 5 Performance (ABRSM or Trinity or equivalent) and
Minimum of Grade 3 Theory (ABRSM or Trinity or equivalent).

  • Local Students are to maintain 80% attendance rate per module,
  • International Students must maintain 90% attendance rate per month
