Diploma in Songwriting & Production

The Diploma in Songwriting and Production equips students with creative and technical skills for success in the music industry. It focuses on four key areas: music theory, practical musician skills, songwriting and arrangement, and technical and creative production skills.

Course Objectives

Upon completion of Diploma in Songwriting and Productions, students will be able to:

  • Apply fundamental music theory to songwriting and arrangement
  • Utilize proven techniques for crafting lyrics, melodies, and harmonies for contemporary songs
  • Arrange music across various genres such as Pop, Rock, RnB, and Dance
  • Demonstrate basic keyboard and guitar proficiency
  • Master Pro Tools and other essential audio recording tools and techniques
  • Independently create industry-standard singles and EPs
  • Effectively self-promote as an independent artist

Course Duration

Full-time (12 months)
Part-time (18 months)

Intake commences in April and October annually.

Class Size

The instructor to student ratio is 1 instructor to 12 students.

Age Requirement

At least 16 years old

Academic Requirement

Minimum of 3 GCE O-level credits with grade C6 and above, or its international equivalent.

Candidates with a NITEC or Higher NITEC Certificate will have to complete and pass one of SOMA’s Certificate Courses in order to be eligible for admission to the Diploma courses.

Language Requirement

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 4.5,
or GCE ‘N’/’O’ Level English grade C6 and above.

Other English Language Proficiency Tests (TOEFL/Duolingo) can also be considered.

Students will need to achieve at least a 50% pass to be awarded the credits for each module and obtain a total of 120 credits in order to graduate.

Attendance Policy

  • Local Students are to maintain 80% attendance rate per module,
  • International Students must maintain 90% attendance rate per month
